Tour description:
We recommend our unique 5-day, 4-night adventure tour package for kayaking and camping enthusiasts. Camp near the ancient lost temple of the Khmer Empire in the jungle, kayak on the Mekong River to spot Irrawaddy dolphins and explore the flooded forest. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Koh Ker and Preah Vihear and learn about the Khmer Civil War and the Khmer Rouge during a stop at Ta Mok’s house on the way back to Siem Reap.

Tour itinerary:

Day 1: Siem Reap – Preah Khan Kampong Svay
Meals: Lunch, dinner
Around 8 AM, our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap to begin your journey. Our guide will provide an overview of the tour program and outline some important dos and don’ts for the trip. We will drive for about an hour before visiting the Ancient Bridge in Kampong Kdie, built in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII.
After our visit, we’ll continue to Preah Khan Kampong Svay, making a few stops along the way to explore local villages and enjoy a lunch break. We are expected to arrive at Preah Kampong Svay around 3 PM. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit a local house, where you can take a shower and enjoy dinner with the family before we set out to explore the Preah Kampong Svay Temple.
This temple, also built by King Jayavarman VII during the Champa occupation of Cambodia from 1177 to 1181, served as a training base for soldiers in fighting and boating, as part of efforts to reclaim the country from the Cham invaders.
Upon reaching the campsite, you can unwind with drinks and snacks by candlelight. This unique experience allows you to camp right next to the temple, immersing you in an atmosphere reminiscent of ancient times, 900 years ago.

Day 2: Preah Khan Kampong Svay – Kratie
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Start your day with breakfast at a local house. We will then drive 100 km to Sambor Prei Kuk, the capital of Cambodia from the 6th to 9th centuries. This archaeological site in Kampong Thom province is known for its ancient temples from the Chenla Kingdom, and it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you can explore early Khmer architecture, and intricate carvings, and gain insights into pre-Angkorian culture.
An authentic lunch will be provided at a local restaurant before we continue our journey to Kratie. Along the way, we will pass through charming small villages, rice paddies, local farms, and rubber plantations, and cross the Mekong River by local ferry.
Upon arrival in Kratie, check in at the hotel and take some time to refresh. Later in the afternoon, before sunset, we’ll stroll around the city by Remork to take in the sights and enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants. Overnight at Mekong Dolphin Hotel (deluxe room)

Day 3: Kratie – Stung Treng – Koh Han
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast, we will drive further north along the Mekong River to Prek Kampi, where we will embark on a 2-hour kayaking adventure to spot the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, a unique species that inhabit the freshwater Mekong River. As we paddle, enjoy the serene surroundings and watch these playful dolphins interacting with their families.
Next, we will drive to Wat 100 Columns to learn about Khmer architecture built over 100 years ago, as well as to explore local cultures and beliefs, including insights into the lives of Buddhist monks.
We will then continue our journey to Koh Han in Stung Treng. Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by the local community and set up our tents on the island in the Mekong River. After refreshing ourselves, we will prepare for a boat ride and kayaking through the flooded forest.
Dinner and overnight accommodations will be provided in tents at Koh Han.

Day 4: Koh Han – Preah Romkel – Koh Ker
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Start your day with breakfast at the community center before driving further north to the Laos International Border for a quick photo stop. We will then head to the boat pier on the Mekong River to board a long-tail boat and cruise upstream to the Preah Romkel community for lunch.
Afterward, we will continue our journey to visit the Sopheak Mitt Waterfall, located on the Mekong River and shared with Laos. Next, we’ll proceed to Koh Ker Temple in Preah Vihear. Upon arrival, we will explore the site, which was the capital of the Khmer Empire in the 10th century. Koh Ker is known for its impressive temples, including the stepped pyramid of Prasat Thom, and it features intricate carvings that showcase early Khmer architecture. Its tranquil atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for exploring ancient Khmer history and culture.
Dinner will be served, and we’ll camp in the yard of a local house for the night.

Day 5: Koh Ker – Preah Vihear – Siem Reap

After breakfast, we will drive to Preah Vihear Temple. Upon arrival at the checkpoint, we will embark on a 4WD vehicle to ascend Rangrek Mountain, where the temple is located near the Thailand border. Preah Vihear Temple, built in the 11th century and dedicated to Shiva, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning architecture, intricate carvings, and breathtaking views.
After exploring the temple, we will return to the checkpoint and drive to Anlong Veng for lunch. Following lunch, we will visit Ta Mok’s house, the main base of the Khmer Rouge forces until 1999. Here, you will learn about the civil war and the history of the Khmer Rouge through a tour of Ta Mok’s house and interactions with some former Khmer Rouge soldiers.
Finally, we will proceed to drive to Siem Reap, marking the end of our tour
