Day 1: Siem Reap – Sasarsdam Farmhouse
Car transfer: 15 minutes, Cycling: 25-30km
Meals: Authentic dinner at a farmhouse
Around 1 PM, our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap and transfer you to the cycling starting point, located approximately 7 km from the city center. We’ll begin our bike ride through scenic areas, passing by West Baray, Puck Market, rice paddies, and local villages along back roads. This cycling tour will give you the opportunity to meet local people as they prepare Kralan (sticky rice cooked in bamboo containers), visit a local pagoda and school, explore a silk farm, and even taste delicious deep-fried crickets. You’ll gain insights into the local lifestyle as you witness the daily activities of villagers in the fields.
During the approximately 3-hour ride, covering about 25 km, we will provide snacks and drinks along the way to keep you energized. Upon arriving at Sasarsdam Farmhouse, you will be warmly welcomed by your host, who will guide you on a tour of the farm, which includes a vegetable garden, a frog farm, and fish-raising operations.
You will savor an authentic dinner prepared with fresh vegetables and ingredients sourced directly from the organic farmhouse. After your meal, you can relax and spend the night at Sasarsdam Homestay, located 30 km west of Siem Reap town.
Day 2: Sasarsdam – Prek Taul Floating Village
Cycling: 25km, Boat Riding: 2 hours, Kayaking: 1 hour
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Start your day with an authentic breakfast at the farmhouse before setting off on a bicycle ride to Treay Village, one of the floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake. The journey will take approximately 2 hours, during which you’ll be surrounded by endless rice paddies. We’ll make stops to observe locals fishing and working in the rice fields, as well as visit one of the largest fields in Tonle Sap Lake, home to thousands of water buffaloes.
As we cycle, snacks and drinks will be provided to keep you refreshed. Upon arriving at Treay Village, we’ll board a local boat to explore the village and visit Wat Chheu Kkmao (which means Black Wood Pagoda). This pagoda, built on stilts over 100 years ago, is situated in Tonle Sap Lake. In the dry season, we can walk to the main building, but during the rainy season, we’ll take the boat.
We will then continue our boat journey to Prek Toal Floating Village, stopping along the way to visit a few other floating villages. This boat trip offers a unique opportunity to learn about the lifestyle and culture of the people living in floating houses on Tonle Sap Lake.
Upon arriving at Prek Toal, you’ll have the chance to enjoy kayaking and take in the stunning sunset from the water. Afterward, you’ll have dinner and spend the night at a homestay in a floating house.
Day 3: Prek Tual Floating Village – Mechrey – Siem Reap
Boat Riding: 3 hours, Kayaking: 90 minutes, Car Transfer: 45 minutes
Meals: Breakfast, lunch
Enjoy breakfast at the homestay before we set off early for a boat ride to Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary. This sanctuary is renowned for its rich diversity of bird species, hosting over 200 different kinds, including several that are rare and endangered. Among the notable residents are the giant ibis, the greater adjutant, and the lesser adjutant. As a crucial habitat for waterbirds, Prek Toal attracts birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts from around the globe.
Our guide, along with a ranger, will assist you in spotting various bird species. After a fulfilling morning of birdwatching, we will return by boat to Prek Toal Village for lunch. Following our meal, we’ll continue our adventure by taking a boat to kayak in the mangrove forest of Mechrey Village. Paddling through the flooded jungle offers a unique experience, allowing us to get close to the trees and observe additional bird species and small wildlife. If we’re fortunate, we may even spot some monkeys! Lunch at a floating house in Mechrey Village.
After this incredible kayaking adventure through the mangroves, we’ll return by boat to the pier where our driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Siem Reap.
